My momma.

She never took my birth as her prerogative to one-up me.

Instead of saying that she had given me the breath of life, she told me I was a gift.

Instead of requiring obedience out of obligation, she expected it out of friendship.

Instead of restricting me with numberless rules, she built trust and communication.

Instead of commandeering my life, she supported me through all my decisions.

Instead of questioning my abilities, she searched for my talents and encouraged my quirks.

Because she understands. Lifts. Strengthens. Comforts. Laughs. Feels. Remembers. Loves.

Just because we are a generation apart doesn't mean that we can't be best friends.

Someday I hope to be just like my momma, because she is a woman of God.

An angel on earth.
